An Age of Compromise

Those of us who have been in the abortion fight for many years find ourselves at a loss to explain how a spirit of compromise could have so completely permeated the pro-life movement. The consequences of this total sellout have been profoundly negative for the cause of life. Most of the mainstream pro-life groups, particularly those attached to the poisoned tentacles of National Right to Life, have either walked off the field of battle, or have actually joined the other side.

For those who remain in the fight, it has become nearly impossible to distinguish friend from foe.

Some recent history
During the 2004 session of the Oregon legislature, "pro-life" Republican lawmakers fought with all their political might to fully fund the Oregon Health Plan - thereby ensuring that a steady supply of blood-money will continue flowing to the likes of Planned Parenthood, Lovejoy Surgicenter, and a number of other death-peddlers across the state. This betrayal came after many months of direct lobbying efforts by LIFE SUPPORT. In the end, twenty seven (out of thirty three) Republican Representatives voted to approve the bloody budget.

These state-funded abortion supporters were not rogue elements within the Republican Party. Instead, it was the entire Republican leadership team, who all claim to be pro-life, that spearheaded this effort - with House Speaker Karen Minnis, Majority Leader Wayne Scott, Ways and Means Chair Dennis Richardson and Rep. Linda Flores, leading the charge. Instead of choosing life, they chose death, and nearly 9,000 unborn Oregonians have paid the ultimate price since June 2004 as a direct result of their cowardice.

The culmination - and shock - of this spirit of compromise was evidenced last fall by the Oregon Right to Life (a NRTL affiliate) endorsement of Ron Saxton for governor during the 2006 election. Saxton, a self professed pro-abort, has never lifted a finger to fight against the carnage being inflicted on so many thousands of unborn Oregonians. In contrast, Mary Starrett, the Constitution Party candidate, has nearly three decades of pro-life leadership under her belt. This one was not even a close call, but ORTL came down on the wrong side because they "did not believe Starrett could win."

"What?" you ask, "Pro-life groups are now endorsing pro-abort politicians?" Sadly, yes. We can only shake our heads in disbelief.

Hot on the Blood-Money Trail

Our prey had remained elusive for many weeks. It was a particularly crafty beast – highly proficient in the art of camouflage. When I finally had the target in my sights and was closing in, I got a glimpse of the quarry we had flushed out.

Any satisfaction I had anticipated over bagging this one quickly turned to sadness and shock.

“Here it is. It’s all in there - the money trail,” the state legislator said as he handed me a thick report detailing the horrors of Oregon’s state-funded abortion business. “They tried to bury it deep in the Department of Human Services, but we smoked them out.”

This information had been so well-hidden, buried so far down within obscure budget line items, that many state legislators who voted on the last budget had no idea that state taxpayer money was being used to murder Oregon children.

In fact, many of them were assured – by those who knew the truth - that no state money was being paid to kill Oregon babies. The state made it tough to track this down, but...

Now we have proof that their denials were a complete pack of lies.

We have detailed evidence that the state of Oregon hired assassins to murder over 4,000 innocent children last year - as they have for many years - paying for nearly one out of every three abortions performed in Oregon. This is also proof that the state is planning kill even more children than that in the coming year!

As I flipped through the pages of statistics detailing the carnage inflicted on our children by the Department of Human Services, I began to get sick to my stomach.

The assassins, or in state Orwellian speak, the “service providers,” we had suspected from the beginning were the main culprits. Five of them ended up being the ones who did 90% of the killings – and took 90% of the money!

Columbia Planned Parenthood, Lovejoy Surgicenter, Downtown Women’s center, Bours Health Center, and Women’s Care Association of Lane County, were the death-peddlers we had expected to find feeding at the end of the $1.6 million state-money trough. To see our suspicions confirmed in print was disgusting.

I sat there in the legislator’s office looking at page after page of absolute horror.
